Increase in weight

12 Dec

Today was a good day. So I haven’t been lifting that much lately. I was working on increasing my cardio. Today I decided to lift. I increased my load by 10 pounds. This is definitely a record for me. Going from 65 lbs to 75 pounds for power cleans is a success for me. This means that taking that break really did do me some good. Sometimes that is what you have to do. If you find that you aren’t moving up the way you like just take a break. When you come back to it you might be able to add a few pounds.

Getting those greens in

10 Dec

So I have had my Vita-Mix (powerful blender) for a year now. I have gotten some good use out of it. I originally bought it so I could make green smoothies for better health. After two weeks of green smoothies I couldn’t do it anymore. They were just too “chewy” for my liking. I decided to use the blender for its other well noted uses. I would grind nuts into powders, process tomatoes for my sauces and I even made soups. Recently, my Mother inspired me to buy a juicer. I think this was one of the best decisions I have made in kitchen appliances in a long time. This way I could get the benefits of my veggies quickly without it taking forever to drink it up. My only complaint is that it is not the easiest to clean. Well, the screen isn’t at least. Besides that I am able to use the same combinations to make my juices that I did for my smoothies. I did not get an expensive juicer because I had already dished out a pretty penny for my other kitchen appliances. I wanted to make sure that I would like it for sure. I do but I’m going to use this until it stops working. I just doesn’t make sense to spend more money on something else that does the same thing.

So that brings me to what I wanted to post about. Getting in the greens. I ate quite a bit today but I decided to have a light “meal” tonight because I know I needed the extra nutrition. I decided to use the Vita-Mix instead to get some extra fiber. The mix tonight was a whole peeled cucumber, half a bunch of Kale and one granny smith apple. As a juice this mix is delicious! As a smoothie not so much. But I decided to go to the cabinet and get a straw. Hey, straws make green juices fun for my kids to drink, why not me? It worked well. I just sipped it down and went along my way. That smoothie inspired me to post today and continue what I started.

I’ve been gone a while…….

10 Dec

Okay, okay I know I’ve been missing. But things got a little hectic for a while. Now I won’t promise that I will post everyday, but I will try to. This blog is going to take a different direction. I’m going to talk about the things I want to talk about based SOLELY on my opinions. This way I can keep my word on where this blog is going.

Mokah’s Fit Tip #1

5 Sep

Let’s face it nowadays we are busy all of the time. You may have work, you need to pick up the kids or you may other errands that keep you running around all day without a minute to spare. If you are constantly running around you will burn yourself out. I’m sure we have all experienced this feeling at some point or another. You may want to drink coffee, take that energy drink or what ever caffeinated beverage for the sole purpose of waking you up. I am not knocking coffee but some people get obsessive about it. You have to ask yourself “what is this going to do for me in the long run?” Like I said earlier it will burn you out. This burn out may not happen right away, but it will happen if you continue this process for a period of time. Drinking plenty of water throughout the day will help keep your energy levels higher. You may even want to take a supplement in the morning that is rich in B vitamins. This alternative is much better than guzzling down energy drinks.

After your day is done you may need to get into that relaxation mode. I suggest doing 5-10 minutes of breathing exercises before rest to make sure you get the sound sleep you deserve. I find that practicing these techniques help me sleep when its time to sleep and be active when I need to.

Focus

4 Sep

The topic I want to discuss today is simply focus. This reminds me of a goal setting class I attended last year and pursuing one of my goals is what got me here today. I wanted to have the fittest body possible for me. I have had two children and most mothers know that childbirth takes quite a toll on your body. Even though I did not gain nearly as much weight, as most women, my body changed. I was still eating healthy but I didn’t have much time to workout. Then after they my children got older I started running again. Running was something I was always able to rely on for exercise. I can honestly say I’m a natural runner. But I noticed I wasn’t getting anymore toned than what I was before pregnancy. My personal goal was clear in my sights, I would do whatever I could to achieve the body of my dreams. Even though I weigh practically the same as I did before I started this journey my body looks completely different. The key for me was to workout by doing cardio and lifting and still eat fairly clean. The combination of all three provided amazing results for me. Previously I would only do two of these techniques at a time. I have gotten the most out of doing all three. If you want that fit body you have to have the focus to reach your goal. Keep it clear in your mind and you will get there. Remember it takes time much like the old saying “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” What are your goals and what are you willing to do to achieve them?
